Secondary School Education

St Michael’s Secondary Day School

In 2019, the Kenya Bureau of Statistics claimed that only 45 % of primary school pupils will complete their secondary education. Established in 2007 due to the prohibitive costs of attending a secondary school, St Michael’s was developed for boys and girls from the Mukuru slums, providing affordable, quality, secondary-level education from Form One through to Form Four.

St Michael’s boasts a well-equipped learning institution owing to the 2017 completed permanent structures built in collaboration with KfW Development Cooperation, the National Government of Kenya and the Sisters of Mercy.   The school facilities include two science laboratories, a computer laboratory, a modern and well-resourced library, airy classrooms, playing fields and basketball courts.  These facilities place St Michael’s in the top 20% category of excellent, educational facility in Kenya.   St Michael’s is now a three-stream secondary school with an enrolment of over 500 students and 19 full-time teachers.
